5 Solo Date Ideas For This National Self Love Day

5 Solo Date Ideas For This National Self Love Day

With everyone fussing over Valentine’s Day this Sunday, you might not realise that tomorrow is National Self Love Day. You don’t have to wait for someone else to live your best life, and dating's included in that! The world’s a bit upside down right now, and that means so is the way we date, but here are some ideas that will keep you safe but brimming with self love.

1. Have a movie night.
The cinema is a go-to date option, but there’s no shame in hitting the movies alone. The cinemas may be closed right now (at least here in the UK), but there’s nothing stopping you from having a movie night at home. Whether you’re rewatching your favourite for the 800th time, or you’re picking something new that piques your interest, it doesn’t matter. Set up your space with blankets, dim the lights, grab your drinks, popcorn, ice cream (or whatever your snacks of choice are), get comfy, settle down, put your phone on flight mode and enjoy.

2. Put out all the stops with a dinner date.
Treat yourself to a three-course meal in the comfort of your own home. With restaurants off limits, turn your dinner table into your own eatery! Grab your best plates and cutlery, light some candles, pour yourself a drink, and enjoy a meal with some chilled background music. You might even want to treat yourself to some gorgeous flowers for the perfect table centrepiece. And if you’re not quite the culinary goddess you’d like to be, you can always support a local restaurant and order in.

3. Get outdoors.
There’s nothing better than fresh air to make you feel good. If it’s safe for you to do so, wrap up and take a walk and surround yourself with nature. Get lost in your surroundings for a little while and take it all in. Grab a coffee to-go from a local place en route, sit down and people watch. Perhaps, if it’s within your area’s COVID guidelines, you could even take a drive with a great playlist, park up in front of a great view, and enjoy a hot drink out of your Thermos.

4. Pamper yourself.
A great way to show yourself some love is to take some time to have a little bit of pampering. Spas are great (whilst expensive, and closed), but you can totally DIY it at home. Whatever feels good for you, whether it’s a mani-pedi, a facial, or a long bath, showing yourself a little TLC is a lovely date option.

5. Get cultured from home.
One of my favourite things to do on my own is visit a museum or exhibition (the V&A is my fave), and due to COVID, unfortunately those trips have had to stop in their tracks. But thanks to the internet, many museums are offering virtual tours and exhibitions, meaning that you won’t miss out whilst staying safe at home. A quick Google search will show you plenty, such as the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum.

Whether you’re single or partnered up, we should all show ourselves some love, and so we urge you to take tomorrow to celebrate all the reasons you love yourself – you deserve it!
