The beauty industry is increasingly getting better at trying to cater to everyone, whether that be in the form of foundation shades, hair products or lipstick hues. One corner that never really got targeted - potentially overlooked - was the nailcare market, until now.
Orly have announced a new collaboration with MuslimGirl.com, creating a range of nail colours that are safe for Muslims to use, having been certified by the Islamic Society of the Washington Area. Normal polish contains ingredients that create a barrier over the nail, meaning that ritual prayer water can't pass through, keeping Muslim women from being able to experiment with their talons.
Muslim Girl's chief of staff, Azmia Magane, said in a statement:
"This line is important because there are so many girls and young women who aren't represented in mainstream beauty. They either don’t fit that definition or see things about them that are designed without them, instead of for them and by them. This is our way of bridging that gap."
The polishes have been dubbed #HalalPaint, available in five gorgeous colours (grape, white, metallic taupe, cherry red and beige) and a glossy top coat. The names of the shades are just as perfectly punny, with the website coming up with "Haram-Bae", "#MuslimGirlFire", "What The Fatima?", "The Perfect Amani-Cure", "Ig-Noor The Haters" and "Wallah Bro Wipe Out".
Whether you're searching for polish that's Halal-approved or not, it's worth considering picking up this collection, with Orly's digital director Tal Pink claiming that the permeability of the lacquers mean longer-lasting manis. If you want in, get on it quickly as the collection is limited edition and its first run of pre-orders is already sold out. Don't panic, you can sign up to the waiting list here. Missed out? No worries, Orly's entire Breathable collection - which features plenty of other shades - is also entirely Halal-certified!
